***SPECIAL BULLETIN**
Would you like to earn some extra income and in the process help your child's school at the same time? The St. Tammany Parish School System is now accepting substitute applications. The office of Professional Development, 227 N. Jefferson in Covington, oversees regulations, data entry and partnership work with the schools for all substitutes in our parish. Registration is on Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 am - 11:00 am. You must provide a valid driver's license, social security card, and proof of highest education at the time of registration. Call (985) 898-6477 for more information.
All substitute teachers and paraprofessionals must attend a full day training session. The cost of the training is $25; however, substitutes are reimbursed after the tenth day substituting in our schools during the school year. The purpose of this workshop is to enhance the ability of the substitute teacher to be much more than just a caretaker in the classroom. Implementation of a training program is designed to decrease incidences that cause problems and increase student learning.
WSJH 100.1 FM
WSJH is the in-house TV station at Slidell Junior High. WSJH broadcasts the morning news to the teachers and student of SJH every morning. WSJH has a crew of 18 students. Students behind the scenes run cameras, video boards, audio mixers and a computer displaying graphics. Two students appear on air everyday. One anchors the show and the second does the sports report.
WSJH also broadcasts the news on 100.1 FM. The WSJH radio station can betuned in for one mile around the school.
HELPING YOUR CHILD GET THE MOST OUR OF HOMEWORK
1. Assume your child will have studying to do every night.
2. Ask if they understand their homework, if not, work a few examples.
3. Ask to see it once their teacher has returned it and review together.
4. Stay in touch with teachers and ask how you can support what they are studying (flash cards, spelling, etc.)
5. Don't do it for them, but help them do it for themselves.
6. Praise your child for doing well and often.
7. Show them that you think homework is important. If you are at work, ask to see it when you get home.
8. Remember - you and their teachers want the same thing, to help your child learn.
